I’m Not Ready Yet

One of my defense mechanisms is to wait until I feel ready before I start doing. The impact of that is procrastinating work or shying away from commitments that scare me. I do this even when I know these are the very things that will support me in being a better leader, growing as a person and building my business.

I tell myself things like…

I’m not ready yet.
I need more information.
I need more experience.
I need more practice.
I need more assurance.
If I have more X, then I can do Y

But it’s a trap driven by fear that keeps me safe and stuck. Here’s how I try to handle it:

  • Notice when that wiggly non-committal version of me shows up

  • Ask myself what I’m more committed to: my fear OR my growth, goals, leadership, etc.

  • Make a clear and empowered choice

  • Do the work and honor the integrity of my word

Start noticing where fear is showing up for you and ask yourself…

How might you be empowering your fear?
What are you more committed to - your fear, or what you want to create, build, become?
Are you in integrity with your commitments?
