Doing vs. Creating

We tend to think about our work as what we do. Stuff that we have to get done. A list of things to get through.

If you look at your schedule, there's probably a lot that you have to do today.

Tasks, projects, reports, emails, calls, meetings.

Before you start doing, zoom out - even just a little - to think about what you are creating.

What are you creating with that email?
What are you creating with that meeting?
What are you creating with that project?

For example, my client shared last week that he was feeling uninspired about some of his work. When I posed this distinction to him, he immediately saw how he could shift from "I have to email all of these prospects" to "I want to create connection and relationship with these buyers."

Relating to your work from a place of creation puts you in the driver's seat. It forces you to connect with the impact of your work. It allows you to find more value in your doing. It upgrades you to be a more active and conscious contributor.

How are you leading from a place of creation?
What are you creating for your team?
What will you create today?
