Leadership is a Choice

Leadership is not a title, it’s a choice.
Leadership is not a task, it’s a commitment.
Leadership is not given, it’s created.

Leadership is choosing into your commitment to be responsible for the impact you create in each moment, over and over again.

In a presentation to the Columbia Business School Alumni Club of New York alongside Blaire Fernandez [she/her] with Marengo, someone asked a question about taking back control of meetings that get off track.

While there are structural and tactical things that can help depending on the nuance of the situation, it's a great opportunity to create leadership in the moment.

You can do this by acknowledging the challenge out loud with the group, be willing to take responsibility for it (rather than assigning blame to others), and create agreements about how to move forward as a team.
